The Abagbon: The aristocratic War chiefs of the kingdom of Lagos island( isale eko)

The Abagbon are one of the four main classes of White cap chief (Oloye) of the kingdom of Lagos island (isale eko).

They are a class of powerful aristocractic War Chiefs of the kingdom .Traditionally, the Abagbon were responsible for military functions ,defense, and warcraft of that era before the establishment and intrusion of the British colonial imperialist military.

Since Nigeria has evolved to become a constitutional republic,the Abagbon roles in modern times has been limited to:

1.Advisers to oba of Lagos

2.Custodians of tradition

3.Mediators in community affairs

4.And prominent involvement in cultural events such as The Eyo Festival, and amongst many others.
