It may be both confusing and intriguing when,on one hand the leader or ruler of a domain or territory is referred to as a monarch there and within minutes of traveling to a much larger territory, the Lagos island (isale eko)kingdom domain ,they become and referred to as a chief “An Idejo chiefs.
The Lagos island (isale eko kingdom) is the head quarter and largest of a group of islands that form what is know as an archipelago.
And, with her as the head,the biggest and the largest of this archipelago,the smaller islands and peninsulas adjoining her at different location have their individual rulers and or monarchs still subjected to the authority of the monarch of (isale eko)Oba of Lagos . Invariably,this monarchs become chiefs as they step into this much larger territory of isale eko. Here,they automatically become what is known as an Idejo chief as their power and authority are subjugated to that of a higher and larger kingdom authority.
The Idejo chiefs are one of the power and aristocratic category of chiefs in (isale eko)kingdom because they are descendants of the original land owners of this archipelago. They are supposedly named and or called“Idejo”because of their roles as the custodians of the lands in their territories.
The other three categories of chiefs Include The Abagbon,Akarigberi and Ogalade.
They are categorized as such based on their roles and functions within the Lagos island (isale eko ) kingdom.
